Looking for a Voicy alternative?

Voicy sends your audio to a cloud API to be transcribed. Blurt's Mac and Windows apps turn speech into text on your own computer.

The key difference: where your voice goes.

Voicy's privacy policy says the audio file is sent to the Groq API for transcription, and that neither Voicy nor Groq keeps it. Blurt's Mac and Windows apps transcribe on your device, so the audio never leaves the computer, and dictation keeps working with no internet once the speech model is downloaded. Voicy runs on more platforms, including phones and Linux. Blurt adds Private mode, a hard lock that IT can force on.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the main difference between Blurt and Voicy?

Where your voice is turned into text. Voicy's privacy policy says the audio file is sent to the Groq API for transcription. Blurt's Mac and Windows apps transcribe on your device, so your audio never leaves the computer and is never stored. (Blurt's Chrome extension is different: it uses Chrome's built-in speech recognition, which sends audio to Google's speech service.)

Is Blurt cheaper than Voicy?

Not per month. Voicy Pro is $8.49 a month, with 20% off billed annually, and Blurt Premium is $9.99 a month at the beta rate. If you would rather pay once, Blurt's 12-month license is $89 and does not renew; Voicy's Lifetime plan is a one-time $260. To start, Blurt has a free plan with 2,500 words a week and no card, and Voicy has a free trial with 30 minutes of recording time.

Does Blurt work without internet?

Yes, on Mac and Windows. Sign in once and let the first run download the speech model while you're online; after that, dictation works with no network at all. Voicy's site says each transcription uses AI processing in the cloud, and its comparison table marks offline mode as not available.

Which one keeps my recordings?

Neither says it does. Voicy says it does not store your transcripts or recordings in its database and keeps transcripts on your device. Blurt never stores audio, keeps transcript history only on your device, and with Private mode on writes no transcripts to disk at all.

Can I use Blurt on my phone or on Linux?

Not today. Blurt runs on Mac, Windows, and in Chrome on a computer, including Chromebooks. Voicy lists iPhone, Android, and Linux apps, so if you need dictation there, Voicy covers it.
