How it works

Click, talk, done.

The Blurt bubble sits in the corner of every page. Drag it off the corner so it never covers a site's own buttons, and it stays where you put it. Premium polishes rambling speech into clean email, notes, or code style and learns your custom words, so names and jargon come out right.

1

Click the bubble

Click into a text box, then click the floating Blurt bubble in the bottom-right of the page.

2

Talk

Speak naturally. Click the bubble again when you're done.

3

It appears

Your words land at the cursor, punctuation and all: Gmail, Google Classroom, Canvas, web chat.

Install it in three steps.

  1. 1

    Add Blurt to Chrome

Install Blurt from the Chrome Web Store, then pin it: click the puzzle-piece icon next to the address bar and hit the pin beside Blurt.

  2. 2

    Enable the microphone

Click the Blurt icon in the toolbar, then "Enable microphone". Chrome asks once, and the grant sticks from then on.

  3. 3

    Sign in with one click

In the popup, hit "Sign in with justblurt.com" and enter the emailed code once. The extension connects to the same Blurt account the Mac and Windows apps use.

The full walkthrough is on the Setup page. Already installed? Connect the extension at justblurt.com/connect. All three Blurt downloads are on the Download page.

Chrome vs the desktop apps

Same account, a few differences.

The extension is for Chromebooks and anyone who lives in the browser. The Mac and Windows apps are the full app: they dictate into anything on the computer. Here is what changes in Chrome.

Speech recognition

The extension uses Chrome's built-in speech recognition, so your audio goes to Google's speech service to become text. Blurt never receives or stores that audio. The Mac and Windows apps transcribe on your device instead.

AI cleanup

For Premium accounts, cleanup is on by default in the extension, with a "Polish my speech" switch in the popup. It uses Blurt's hosted cleanup only. On desktop, cleanup is off by default.

Starting a dictation

In Chrome you click the floating bubble, and you can drag it anywhere on the page. On Mac and Windows you hold a push-to-talk key, in every app on the computer.

Private mode

Private mode, the hard lock that keeps everything on the computer, is part of the Mac and Windows apps. If audio has to stay on the device, use a desktop app.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Where does Blurt for Chrome work?↓

In any text box on any web page, wherever Chrome runs: on Windows, on a Mac, and on Chromebooks. Gmail, Google Classroom, Canvas, and web chat all work. The extension runs in Chrome on a computer, not on a phone.

Does Blurt work on school Chromebooks?↓

Yes. The Blurt Chrome extension works wherever Chrome runs, including Chromebooks. Students click the floating Blurt bubble on any web page, speak, and the words land at the cursor.

Does my audio stay on my device in Chrome?↓

No. The extension uses Chrome's built-in speech recognition, so your audio is sent to Google's speech service to produce the text, under Google's terms. Blurt never receives or stores it. The Mac and Windows apps transcribe on your device; use one of them if audio has to stay on the computer.

Do I need a separate account or plan for Chrome?↓

No. The extension signs in to the same Blurt account as the Mac and Windows apps, and Premium on one is Premium on all of them. There is a free plan, no card needed.

How do I connect the extension to my account?↓

Click "Sign in with justblurt.com" in the extension popup and enter the emailed code once. If the extension is already installed, you can also connect it at justblurt.com/connect.

Does the extension keep my dictations?↓

A short list of recent dictations stays in the browser's extension storage as a backup, so a missed insertion never loses your words. You can clear it from the popup, and it is never sent to Blurt.
